Richmond Spiders on 2011 U.S. Track & Field Performance List

U.S. Track & Field News recently released their 2011 year end national track & field performance rankings and the University of Richmond had several athletes on the list….Women’s 4X1500M, Andrew Benford (3KSC), Nicol Traynor (3KSC) and Matt Llano (10K)…See lists below: 

University of Richmond Head Coach Lori Taylor encourages one of 10 Richmond Spider athletes competing in 12 different events at the first round of the 2011 NCAA DI Track & Field Championships in Indiana. The Spiders ended the year with 5 NCAA All-American honorees (Andrew Benford-3KSC-2011, Matt Llano-10K-2010, Heather Roush-Javelin-2011, Nicol Traynor-3KSC-2011, Amy Van Alstine-5K-2011).  (Dan Petty Photo)

The Spiders 4x1500M Relay placed 5th (17:58.28) in the 2011 Penn Relays Championship of America Race and achieved the 7th fastest time in the U.S. for the year (R-L- The team members and their splits:  Nicol Traynor-JR-4:23.2-2nd leg, Amy Van Alstine-SR-4:19.7-1st leg, Alli Mannon-FR-4:34.9-4th leg  and Jenn Ennis-SR-4:40.5-3rd leg).

Andrew Benford ran 8:39.71 in the 3K steeplechase, also earned All-America honors and qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.  His time places him #19 on the 2011 U.S. national performance list and 9th U.S. collegian.  In addition to his effort in the steeple he also ran 13:55.88 in the 5,000M at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Nicol Traynor ran 10:02.94 in the 3K steeplechase at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors and qualify for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.  The Spider juniors time places her #19 on the U.S. national performance list, 8th U.S. collegian and the 5th underclassman.  Additionally, Traynor ran performances of 16:10.37 in the 5,000M and 4:23.2 in the 1500M during the season.
