Day 2- 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

Andrew Benford battled the flu all week but didn't let that slow him down at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships...After winning the 5000M on Friday in a time of 14:32.21 he returned on Saturday to win the 3000M race in a new A-10 Meet Record (8:18.27). Benford covered the final 800M of the 3K in 2:05 and his final 400M in under 60 seconds...In the 5K on Friday he covered the final 800M in 2:07. (Dan Petty photo)

Kingston, R.I. - The Richmond women's track & field team took 11th and the men's team finished ninth as the 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship came to a close on Saturday in Kingston, R.I.

Redshirt-senior Andrew Benford was the highlight of the weekend with two first-place finishes in both the 3,000m and 5,000m runs. On Friday, Benford completed the 5,000m run in 14:32.21. Today, Benford finished the 3,000m run in 8:18.27, followed by sophomores Levi Grandt in 11th (8:38.11) and Chris York in 15th (8:51.10).

In the men's 55m dash finals, senior Tremayne Graham placed fourth with a time of 6.51. He also placed seventh in the 200m dash finals with a time of 22.53.

Senior Matt Mello came in eighth-place in the 800m run finals (1:56.45)...

Men Sixth, Women Eighth After Day One Of A-10 Championships

- As day one of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Conference Championships comes to a close, the Spider men are in sixth and the women are in eighth-place heading into Saturday's competition.

"Our men did well today," said men's head coach Steve Taylor. "Andrew Benford's win in the 5K was great... Tremayne Graham made the finals in the 55M and 200M dashes and Matt Mello ran a big personal best in the 800M to make finals. Tomorrow we need everyone to compete like they did today. It's going to be a great meet tomorrow."

Redshirt-senior Andrew Benford clinched the Spiders only first-place victory for day one of the A-10 Championships. He claimed gold in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 14:32.21. Senior Tim Quinn followed in fifth-place (14:48.74) and redshirt-senior Jon Wilson finished seventh (15:05.52).

Senior Tremayne Graham had a successful day, qualifying for two event finals. He placed second in the 55m dash preliminaries with a time of 6.47. Graham also qualified for the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.50 and an eighth-place finish. Both the 55m and 200m dash finals are set for Saturday.

Day 1 Photos of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

Freshman, Grace Gibson tied her school record (3.30M) to place 6th in the Pole Vault.

In the Pentathlon, Meghan Hart ran a PR (2:32) in the 800M to help her to an 8th place finish in the multi.

Freshman Amanda Lineberry ran 32.2 for her final 200M of the 1000M but came up just short of making finals in the event. Later she led off the Spiders Distance Medley Relay with a 3:39 on the 1200M leg...The Spiders ran 11:56 in the event to place 6th. The relay legs were: Lineberry (1200M-3:39), Andi DeFonce (400M-60.9), Alli Mannon (800M-2:15) and Jenn Ennis (1600M-4:57).
Sophomore Lydia Morton ran a personal best of 3:00.48 to narrowly miss finals in the event...Her race was quick. She went through splits of 33.3/67.9/1:43.7/2:21.4 at 800M.

In the Pentathlon, freshman Anne O'Toole ran a personal best of 2:30 in the 800M to finish 10th.

Freshman Kelsey McKeena in the Long Jump of the Pentathlon. She finished 14th in the event..

Andi DeFonce (in 2nd) and Stephanie Paradis (6th) in the 800M trials...DeFonce (2:19.75) and Paradis (2:20.75) did not advance to finals in the event. DeFonce was 11th and 9 make finals.

Almost a great photo....of Tremayne Graham in the 55M dash trials...Tre won his heat (6.48) and advanced to finals in both the 55M and the 200M (22.50). The school record in the 200M is 22.33 set on a banked track by Rashad Smith. Graham is a standout on our Spiders football team..
