Long Jump/Triple Jump Runway Construction at Robins Stadium and Fred Hardy Track

is scheduled for March 25-26.

Construction on the new Robins Stadium on our University of Richmond campus is nearly complete. One of the final touches is to lay the Beynon Sports Surfacing on the Long Jump/Triple Jump runways. That process started today (July 16) and should conclude by Monday. Below are a few photos of the process...

The first pour. The rubber material used for the runway surface comes in liquid form and is poured carefully into place. The first pour is about halfway complete in this photo.

Beynon Sports Surfacing workers pour more rubber onto the runways.

They continue their work, even in 100+ degree heat, as they basically rake the rubber material into place before it firms up to become a solid.

The two sand pits are empty except for the gavel base covering the drainage system.

University Architect, Andrew McBride (bottom right in photo) oversees the process.

The 1st pour was completed by noon...

The runways are on the north end of the track & field facility next to the scoreboard which boasts a 19 feet by 25 feet video board. One of the largest of its kind in the US.

As they complete the first pour...construction and testing continued on the scoreboard...or the "results board" as we track coaches call it.
