Spiders Post Records in 2012 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships

Stephanie Paradis and Alyson McGonigle in the 800M Trails...
Below are a couple article links from UR Sports Information and several photos by Mike Scott detailing our team’s success at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.  The meet was hosted by URI on their 200M flat track within Mackel Fieldhouse.

NOTES:  Congratulations to Spider Nicol Traynor who ran 2nd fastest 3K in the NCAA for this weekend. Her A10 meet record setting time on a flat track (9:32.20) converts to 9:29.20# for the NCAA DI rankings...

Also, Spiders Women's Distance Medley Relay (Alli Mannon-SO, Taylor Clevinger-FR, Stephanie Paradis-JR, Nicol Traynor-SR) ran the 5th fastest time in the NCAA for this weekend. Their A10 meet record run of 11:39.03 on a flat track converts to 11:35.13# for the purpose of NCAA rankings.

KINGSTON, R.I. -  Senior All-American Nicol Traynor raced to her second meet record in as many days and the team's third of the weekend to lead the Spider Track & Field on Saturday's second and final day of action at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, R.I.
In the team standings, the Richmond women finished sixth with 62.5 points, while the men took ninth with 17 points. Rhode Island captured the men's title with Charlotte taking the title on the women's side.

"The combination of strong senior leadership and standout individual performances from Nicol Traynor and Meaghan McGovern along with Meghan Hart helped lead our underclassmen and granted us a great Atlantic 10 Championship experience," said Director of Track & Field and head women's coach Lori Taylor. "Many of our student-athletes took advantage of this opportunity and performed at a championship level. Our weekend was topped off by A-10 titles in the distance medley relay and 4x800 Meter Relay in addition to a season-best in the 4x400 Meter Relay.

Traynor (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) clocked a 9:32.20 to cruise to victory in the 3,000 Meters, setting new A-10 meet and school records in the process. Her finish, which reset her own program mark established earlier this season, was more than 10 seconds faster than the previous conference record of 9:42.87 set by Dayton's Maureen Bolgren.

Release:02/17/2012

KINGSTON, R.I. - A pair of impressive records were posted as Richmond native Taylor Clevinger's DMR squad and sophomore Meghan Hart highlighted the Spiders' opening day of action at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships in Kingston, R.I., on Friday. Saturday's second and final day of action is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Rhody's Mackal Fieldhouse.

In the team standings, the Richmond women sit just one-half point outside of the top-five in sixth with 19.5 points, while the Spider men are currently eighth after day one with 10 points. Only five and six events, respectively, have been scored on the men's and women's sides.

"As a staff, we are excited and proud of the way our student-athletes competed today," said Director of Track & Field and head women's coach Lori Taylor. "We qualified several athletes through to tomorrow's finals and scored points in areas we haven't before. Meghan Hart set our school record in the pentathlon, breaking Cathleen Campbell's 2000 mark, and our women broke the all-time conference meet and URI facility records in winning the distance medley relay. Our men and women competed as a team and showed the level of determination that we've grown to expect from our Spider teams. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

In what has been one of the Spiders' strongest events this season, Clevinger (Mechanicsville, Va./Saint Catherine's School) would combine with sophomore Alli Mannon (Litiz, Pa./Warwick), junior Stephanie Paradis (Leesburg, Va./Stone Bridge) and senior Nicol Traynor (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) to take the DMR title with a new conference meet and facility record of 11:39.03. The foursome's finish topped Dayton's 2011 record of 11:41.51 by more than two seconds.
