Traynor, who earned All-America honors and has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 3K Steeplechase competed in her first 10K ever today running 35:57 on the rolling hills of Charlottesville. With a total elevation change of 749 feet (course map), she held even splits of just over 5:40 per mile for the first 4 miles (~22:51 at 4 miles) before climbing the steep uphill in the 5th mile in 6:08 and closing the remaining 1.2 miles in 6:50. Her time of 35:57 is one of the fastest women’s times in race history as she placed 2nd in the women’s race to Lauren Bonds, a graduated All-American from Kansas, who competes for the Adidas Raleigh Track Club in North Carolina.
