Richmond Spiders Win William & Mary XC Invitational

Sophomore, Jill Prentice returned to the Spiders lineup 
this past weekend.  An NCAA 5K East Region
Championships qualifier last spring,
Prentice ran a meet record 17:37 to lead the Spiders
to victory over William & Mary and Hampton.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Richmond cross country teams competed in their second meet of the season on Saturday at the William and Mary Invitational on the grounds of the Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Va.

The Spider men suffered a narrow 25-31 setback to W&M in the men's 8K race, while the women topped the Tribe by a 22-33 margin on the 5K course. Old Dominion and Hampton took third on the men's and women's sides, respectively.

Chris York placed 3rd running 25:17.

Conor Phelan is much improved over the past year.  He ran 26:07
as the Spiders #3 runner (7th overall in the race). 
His time was nearly 45 seconds faster than he ran on this course last year.

Matt Groff was great in his first 5 mile race...
He placed 10th in 26:19.

Her 17:37 would best the field by 36 seconds.

After a conservative 6:00 opening mile Prentice
accelerated away from the field to run 17:37,
making her final 2.1 miles at 5:30 mile pace.

Stephanie Paradis ran 18:27 to place 3rd overall...
Another good race for her.

Roxanne Henningson ran 18:38 to place 4th to help the
Spiders win the William & Mary Invite.

Liz Schinski ran 19:18 as the Spiders 6th runner.

Emily Graber (20:12), Devin Sulivan (20:12 also) and
Dana Guglielmo (20:29) rounded out the Spiders team.
